History of North Cyprus

Cyprus is one of the fascinating islands in the Mediterranean Sea. The life has begun here in the Stone Age. Over the centuries many nations were fighting for the land of Cyprus. First, the warriors of the Roman Empire took the island from the Greeks. Richard the Lion Heart and Guy de Lusignan also left their historical traces on the island. In 1570 Turkish conquerors arrived here and annexed the island to the Ottoman Empire. The conflicting period began in the life of the Cypriots from this period. In the 15th and 16th centuries, the Greek Cypriots were trying to defend themselves against the Ottomans encroaching on their lands. In 1974 Turkey brought the armed forces to the island and organized the Turkish Republic of North Cyprus in the eastern part of the island.

There are many natural and historical treasures on the territory of North Cyprus, which attract tourists. The eastern part, like the western part of the island, is washed by the Mediterranean Sea, more precisely, the Levantine and Cilicia seas. There is a subtropical climate, so in the period from April to October, the weather is very comfortable here – warm and dry. Winter temperatures are also pleasant: from 5 to 20 degrees. There are beautiful beaches in North Cyprus both sandy and stony.

Nicosia is the capital of the Turkish Republic of North Cyprus and the Republic of Cyprus. It is divided into two parts, respectively. A significant part of the historical sights of North Cyprus is concentrated in the region of Kyrenia.
